Second on the national box office, I could assume that this movie is somewhat good. I don't use the box office ratings as an indication often, but when no movies are running that are truely interesting, I have to resort to those measures.
Using box-office ratings to determine what movie I should see could lead to two things: either extreme dissapointment because the masses tend have a retarded taste for movies, or something that I truely enjoy. Something good that didn't stand out in the first instance, but got noticed and got popular somewhat. This sort of happened to The Matrix for me.
As for this movie, I'm glad I decided to join the masses on this one, but I can't really say that I enjoyed it as much as I hoped I would. Yet, it was still a good watch, and at least entertaining.
Anyway, Hide and Seek is a steriotypical horror movie, many ingredients for a horror movie are being used here: the bath tub, the blood writings on the wall, the shovel, the cave, the dark basements, the dramatic flashes. Hey, what do you expect from a horror movie.
The plot is pretty much about a little girl called Emily, her mother "committed suicde" by cutting her wrists in a bath tub, the bath tub constantly returns in this movie. Her father decides to move from the busy streets of New York City to the outdoor life of Woodhill, NY (or something like that) to start anew.
The girl starts to develop an imaginary friend called Charlie. Right from that point I started to guess who this charlie person could be: a ghost? a person? her subcontious? Someone else's subcontious? She completely locks up, formula ala 6th Sense, where the litte boy is also acting weird around others.
I'm not giving away the ending, because that would ruin just about the entire movie, although mentioning The 6th Sense might've given too much of a clue. What I can tell is that a fair amount of peopel die, akward moments are not rare and your brain has plenty of info to process.
The real downer is the happy glee ending, because after the ending, Emily ia suddenly all cheerful again, and a subtile hint is shown that there might be a sequal.
My Score: 7.3/10
This movie is The 6th Sense, except it's a little differently and a notch less interesting and exiting. Were we see a lot of gore and real scary parts in The 6th Sense, this movie's gore level is pretty mediocre. Some people have called this movie a steriotypical slasher movie, and I sort of agree on that. Although it's plot and originally isn't the best thing evar, it's still worth your viewing sometime.
