I used to consider myself to be a right-winger, but as I grow older, I'm starting to drift to the left. It doesn't mean I'm a lefty now, heck, if you want to meet lefties, go visit certain parts of my school and you'll know what I mean. I'm not fully convinced by both sides of the spectrum, and thus you could consider me a centrist.

Now, The Boondocks should be approached with an open mind, because it will get political and offensive, or at least, that's what it claims to be.

The show is what you could consider an American anime, and it's drawn and animated that typical anime way. Something we don't see in most anime is that most characters in the Boondocks are black, which is a common theme in most episodes as well. The show is based on the same-named comic strip, telling the tale of two boys named Huey and Riley, adopted by their grandfather. Aparently, Huey and Riley's parents are dead, and Granddad took them away from Chicago and into the suburbs, where they are the only black people in the neighborhood.

You could say that the Boondocks is a sitcom, well, it is for about 70%. The other 30% is a mixture of South-Parkish craziness. The show is very lighthearted about rasism, and both white and black people are not afraid to humiliate, beat and prejuice eachother. Even though there's humor, there's definitely a serious undertone in each episode. Initially, I was afraid that the show was going to be too preachy, and in some sense it is, but it's served with a sauce made of humor and doesn't glorify either side of the political spectrum.

The downside is that the show tends to lose pace and there are many times when it becomes a drag to watch until something interesting happens. Even worse, a bunch of episodes are boring entirely. It pretty much makes you not want to watch the episodes again. It's not much of a surprise, you don't want to watch re-runs of most sitcoms either.

Besides that, the show is still pretty tame for something rated TV-MA, I mean, I'm not anywhere near as offended as they suggest, and some words that are bleeped out are just moderate. The worst un-bleeped word in the show is "nigga", about 50 times per episode. Perhaps this is the shock value they're talking about.

Score: 7.2/10
The Boondocks is a decent show that passes the basic examination, but is somewhat weary beyond that. It has the tedency to become boring and make you wish for the funny that is spread throughout the series. If you think you won't like it, it's best not to watch it. It just doesn't have the magic to make you think otherwise.
